Karen Halvorsen Schreck is the author of four novels, Broken Ground, Sing for Me, While He Was Away, and Dream Journal, along with a book for children, Lucy’s Family Tree. Her short stories, interviews, and essays have appeared in various magazines and journals, including Oyster River Pages, Consequence, Hypertext, The Rumpus, Belt, American Fiction, Literal Latté, and Image. The recipient of a Pushcart Prize and an Illinois State Arts Council Grant, Karen received her doctorate in English and Creative Writing from the University of Illinois at Chicago. She works in the Community Engagement Department of a public library.
Karen’s next novel, a work of literary fiction, All Are Welcome Here, is forthcoming from Regal House in 2025.
